Workshop on Experimental & Analytical Mathematics

University of Newcastle
29 November to 1 December

The workshop marks the occasion of Jonathan Borwein's 60th birthday

Jonathan Borwein is known throughout the Australian mathematics community. Starting in the mid eighties he made numerous visits before moving here permanently four years ago. As a result Jonathan has forged strong links with Australian mathematicians. With more than a dozen books and over 350 papers Jonathan is one our most productive mathematicians. MathSciNet lists more than 2700 citations by more than 1400 authors. His research spans optimization, functional and nonlinear analysis, operations research, mathematical programming, number theory, special functions, experimental and computational mathematics as well as high performance computing.

The workshop will be divided into sessions each starting with a plenary talk followed by keynote addresses and shorter contributed talks.

Session 1: Functional and Nonlinear Analysis
Session 2: Optimization, Operations Research and Mathematical Programming
Session 3 Number Theory and Special Functions
Session 4: Experimental Mathematics

Worshop keynote talks will be made available via Access Grid to both Australian and North American audiences. Some talks may be delivered via AGR from North America.
