Seminar Abstract:
|
Advances in human neuroimaging technology, including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) with simultaneous electroencephalography (EEG), have made possible the non-invasive acquisition of whole-brain functional images at millimeter spatial resolution and millisecond temporal resolution.
We are using this technology to unravel mysteries in epilepsy. A challenge is to process the large amount of data in an objective and meaningful way to determine where seizures arise in individual patients. More fundamentally we wish to determine the spatiotemporal pattern of brain activity that leads to a seizure in various types of epilepsy, as this knowledge may lead to new therapeutic targets.
I will discuss the application of model-based and model-free data analysis methods to this problem.
